HC Deb 10 July 1950 vol 477 c958
54. Mr. Edward Wakefield

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what uniform has been prescribed for use on ceremonial occasions by female members of His Majesty's Foreign Service.

Mr. Ernest Davies

It has not been deemed necessary or advisable to prescribe a uniform for lady members of His Majesty's Foreign Service.

Mr. Wakefield

Will the Minister consider the suggestion that has been made to substitute brooches for breeches?

Mr. Davies

That suggestion is being considered. There has been no pressure for these uniforms. We would not like to prescribe in the matter of ladies' dresses.
