HC Deb 14 December 1950 vol 482 cc1325-6
18. Mr. John Rodgers

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has yet taken any steps to discuss with the Government of the United States of America the setting up of an international authority to handle the problem of newsprint supplies.

Mr. H. Wilson

No. Sir.

Mr. Rodgers

In view of the fact that we have the smallest newspapers in the world, will the right hon. Gentleman see that this question is raised during the forthcoming talks with 0.E.E.C.?

Mr. Wilson

I have thought for a considerable time that it would be useful to have an international discussion on the fair supply of newsprint as between particular countries, but, in my view, it is necessary that we should first complete our negotiations with the Canadian suppliers before such a discussion is proposed.
