HC Deb 12 December 1950 vol 482 c964
23. Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he is taking to improve the position in Ayrshire, where people are having to wait up to 12 months for surgical eye treatment.

Miss Herbison

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given on 4th December to his Question on this subject. I know that the regional board are doing their best to improve the services in their area in this as in other respects, but I am afraid that at the present time the possibilities of expanding the hospital service are limited by financial and other considerations.

Mr. Ross

Will my hon. Friend have a look at the schemes presented to the regional hospital board by the South Ayrshire management committee, which schemes her right hon. Friend stated had not been put forward at all?

Mr. Henderson Stewart

Is it true to say that this delay of 12 months is common throughout Scotland?

Miss Herbison

I could not say without notice, but I do not think that it is.
