HC Deb 12 December 1950 vol 482 c959
12 and 16. Mr. Manuel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) the number of houses which are scheduled as unfit for human habitation in the landward portion of the County of Ayr, and an estimate of the total number that could be listed as unfit if sufficient new houses were available to rehouse the families occupying these old properties;

(2) how many houses in the landward portion of the County of Ayr have been condemned as unfit for human habitation since 1945 and remain occupied; and how many houses condemned as unfit for human habitation previous to the above year still remain occupied.

Mr. T. Fraser

The County Council have been asked for this information, and I will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as it is available.

Mr. Manuel

Is my hon. Friend aware that most of the tenants occupying these unfit houses are still paying rent and many of these houses are becoming completely unfit because of lack of repair? Could some steps be taken to see that these houses are kept windproof and watertight while rent is still being paid?

Mr. Fraser

That is quite another question.

Mr. Manuel

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. My hon. Friend does not seem to appreciate that the whole point of unfit houses is that they are unfit because they are not having repairs. I do not agree that that is another question.

Mr. Speaker

That is not a point of order.
