HC Deb 06 December 1950 vol 482 cc362-3
57. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Food if he can now make a statement resulting from his inquiries into the charge of the sale of unsuitable ewe mutton to the public.

Mr. Webb

I do not recollect any undertaking to conduct a special inquiry into the sale of ewe mutton. This is one aspect of our meat supplies which is constantly receiving my attention, and I can assure my hon. Friend that all possible steps are being taken, and will be taken, to keep unsuitable ewe mutton off the ration.

Mr. Dodds

Can my right hon. Friend give the result of the inquiry resulting from the allegation made by the hon. Member for Aberdeenshire, West (Mr. Spence), when exhibiting pieces of ewe mutton in the House the other day?

Mr. Webb

I do not think we conducted a special inquiry into that matter.
