§ 21. Mr. John MacLeodasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total number of crans of herring, and 764 their value, landed in Stornoway between 1st January and 31st March, 1950; and the total number and value landed at Ullapool between the same dates.
Mr. McNeilTwo thousand and seventy-eight crans of herring, valued at £5,819, were landed at Stornoway between 1st January and 31st March, 1950. Between the same dates 24,496 crans of herring, valued at £78,579, were landed at Ullapool.
§ Mr. MacLeodWill the Minister see that every encouragement is given to the Herring Industry Board to develop the port of Ullapool? Does he appreciate that there is great concern about the withdrawal of the flat rate for transport from Ullapool and that that is likely to interfere greatly with the herring fishing industry in that port?
Mr. McNeilI am always glad to assist the excellent and efficient Herring Industry Board in discharging its job when it invites my help.
