HC Deb 25 April 1950 vol 474 cc777-8
50. Wing-Commander Stevens

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the hardship caused through Estate Duty being levied on notional values at the date of death which cannot be realised after probate has been obtained, in some cases leaving the executors or administrators personally liable to repay money borrowed from banks to pay the Estate Duty; and if he will introduce legislation to protect executors and administrators in such cases.

Sir S. Cripps

I am not aware of any cases in which executors or administrators have suffered hardship in this way. If the hon. and gallant Gentleman will give me particulars of any such cases, I will have; them looked into.
