§ 1. Mr. John E. Haireasked the Minister of Transport when it is proposed to commence work on the new by-pass roads through High Wycombe.
§ The Minister of Transport (Mr. Barnes)Alternative schemes for bypasses to the trunk road which runs through High Wycombe have been put forward, but both schemes would be costly, and I am unable to say when it will be possible to begin the works on whatever scheme may eventually be adopted.
§ Mr. HaireIs my right hon. Friend aware of the serious congestion in this 574 town caused by through traffic constituting a danger to life? Will he himself intervene to bring about an early solution of this problem?
§ Mr. BarnesAs my hon. Friend knows, some doubts have been thrown on the practicability of the outer by-pass scheme. Last year a special survey was made of this project, and I am now examining the result of that survey.
§ Mr. John HayWill the right hon. Gentleman remember that' this road passes through Oxford, and that a great deal of industrial traffic comes from Oxford to London by it? Will he do everything to press on with this matter?
