HC Deb 19 April 1950 vol 474 c138
53. Mr. Odey

asked the Minister of Food whether he will consider making the stocks of cod liver and roe spread, which are at present surplus to this country's requirements, available to refugees in Europe through the International Refugee Organisation in Geneva.

Mr. Webb

The stocks to which the hon. Member refers were imported by private traders, and at no time have they been owned by my Department. If they can dispose of them through the International Refugee Organisation my Department will raise no objection to their re-export.

Mr. Odey

Would the Minister bear in mind that the poor sale of this delicacy in this country is entirely due to the fact that his Department have insisted that this spread should be described by a name reminiscent of medicine and not of a delicacy, which, in fact, it is?

Mr. W. Fletcher

Middle aged spread.
