HC Deb 19 April 1950 vol 474 cc137-8
52. Mr. Odey

asked the Minister of Food whether beans in tomato sauce, of which there is an ample supply, can now he made available without points.

Mr. Webb

I would rather not anticipate the usual statement about points changes which will be made this week end, at the end of the rationing period.

Mr. Odey

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that there is no point in keeping goods like beans in tomato sauce on points when there is an ample supply of them?

Mr. Webb

All the decisions have been taken, but to help the grocers we have decided not to announce the details until Saturday.

Captain J. Crowder

Do I understand that the announcement will be in the Press before the House is informed?

Mr. Webb

This is an ordinary trading arrangement.
