HC Deb 28 November 1949 vol 470 cc763-4
31. Air-Commodore Harvey

asked the Minister of Supply how many men and women, respectively, are employed at the Radway Green ordnance factory at the latest convenient late; and how does this figure compare with that of 12 months ago.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

On 12th November this year there were 1,825 men and 974 women, compared with 1,448 men and 664 women on 13th November last year.

Air-Commodore Harvey

Will the right hon. Gentleman try, whenever possible, to divert work to this special factory, because it is situated in an area which has suffered considerably in the past?

Mr. Strauss

On the other hand, there is a very considerable demand for labour for the pottery industry.

Mr. A. Edward Davies

Is there any demand at this factory for male labour? There is a considerable pool of disabled men who could be employed if they were wanted.

Mr. Strauss

Not at the moment.
