HC Deb 21 November 1949 vol 470 cc7-8
6. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Food if he has now considered the representations of the National Dairymen's Association on behalf of retailers of milk in rural areas where consumers are widely scattered and costs of distribution are higher than in the towns; and if he has any statement to make.

Mr. Strachey

My Department has discussed this request with the Central Milk Distributive Committee, of which the National Dairymen's Association is a constituent body. The Central Milk Distributive Committee has undertaken to provide further evidence in support of its case, and until this has been received and considered I am not in a position to make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

Will the Minister give an undertaking that he himself will consider the rather special position of this group of retailers?

Mr. Strachey

Yes, Sir; I am sure this matter will come to me personally.
