asked the Minister of Food how much of the recent record herring catch has been exported; and, in view of the food shortage in this country, what were the reasons for this.

Mr. Strachey

Up to now, over 60 per cent. of this year's East Anglian herring catch has been cured or klondyked for export. This is because the home demand had been fully satisfied. Two-thirds of the catch was exported before the war.

Is not the Minister exporting fish as a red herring to hide his failure with the groundnut scheme and the utter inadequacy of his Department?
