HC Deb 17 November 1949 vol 469 c2197
66. Mr. Dye

asked the Minister of Agriculture the price which will be paid for home-grown sunflower seed of the 1950 crop.

Mr. T. Williams

The price which growers receive for sunflower seed is a matter for arrangement with the purchaser. If the Ministry of Food purchases surplus seed from a processor, I understand that the price to be paid will be £35 per ton for seed of the 1950 crop.

Mr. Dye

Is my right hon. Friend aware that sunflower seed is a most valuable food and that the growing of it should be encouraged more in this country, as in the case of linseed?

Mr. Williams

It may be a valuable food, but the price has been fixed at £35, assuming that the Ministry of Food purchases from the merchants and not directly from the farmers.
