HC Deb 17 November 1949 vol 469 c2181
24. Mr. Stokes

asked the Minister of Health the area and the price of the land acquired under compulsory purchase order for the new London County Council housing estate at Oxhey; and the rateable value of that land previous to acquisition.

Mr. Bevan

The total area of the Oxhey Estate is 921,275 acres. I am informed that the cost of acquisition was £1,406,000, and the total rateable value £1,187. Most of the land was agricultural, and therefore not rated.

Captain Crookshank

What, 900,000?

Mr. Bevan

No. I am sorry; 921.275.

Mr. Stokes

On a point of Order. Before you call the next Question, Mr. Speaker, may I ask for your guidance on a point of procedure? In answering Question No. 24, the Minister in error multiplied the figures by a thousand and completely misled me. Later, in reply to a right hon. Gentleman on the other side, he gave a corrected figure. If he had given the correct figure in the first case, I would have liked to ask a supplementary question on it. May I do so now?

Mr. Speaker

We have passed that Question now, and we must get on.
