HC Deb 03 November 1949 vol 469 c591
52. Mr. Vane

x asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the policy of the Land Commission for the sale of individual fields or isolated parcels of agricultural land in their possession to the owners of adjoining holdings where such land could be most economically farmed as part of such holdings.

Mr. T. Williams

Under Section 90 of the Agriculture Act, 1947, the power to sell land is vested in the Minister and not in the Agricultural Land Commission. I am always prepared to consider the sale of any land where I am satisfied that such action would be expedient in the interests of agricultural efficiency.

Mr. Vane

Could the Minister say how many acres have been sold since the 1947 Act was passed?

Mr. Williams

If the hon. Member will put down a Question on those lines I shall be glad to reply.
