HC Deb 18 May 1949 vol 465 c403
1. Mr. Driberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that there are separate hospitals in Kenya for Africans and for Europeans; and if he will recommend to the Government of Kenya that all Government-aided hospitals shall be open to all sick persons without distinction of colour.

The Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Creech Jones)

The present policy of the Kenya Government is to erect group hospitals with separate blocks for Europeans, Asians and Africans. That, under existing conditions, is the most economical and effective method of providing hospital facilities in areas with mixed populations.

Mr. Driberg

Are the hospital facilities of equal standard for both races?

Mr. Creech Jones

Yes, Sir. Every effort is being made to get equality of standard between them.
