§ 17. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the objection made by the Togoland farmers to the Cocoa Marketing Board; what consultations respecting the establishment and operation of the Board have taken place; to what extent cocoa trees in this area are affected by disease; and what steps will be taken to encourage the farmers to appreciate the purpose and advantage of the Board.
Mr. Creech JonesI have asked the Acting Governor for information, and will write to my hon. Friend when it is received.
§ Mr. SorensenIs my right hon. Friend aware of the complaints on the part of farmers that they have not been consulted; and do I take it that he has had no information regarding those grievances?
Mr. Creech JonesI have no information at all and nothing has been addressed to me. I believe certain rumours are current, but what their substance is, I am not quite clear.
§ Mr. HarrisonIn seeking this information, will my right hon. Friend take the necessary steps to procure the information regarding the excellent work done by the Cocoa Board over the last two or three years, and add it to the list of information already collected?
