HC Deb 15 March 1949 vol 462 c1883
18. Colonel Gomme-Duncan

asked the Minister of Labour what recommendations he has received from the Catering Wages Commission as the result of their consideration of the Knox Report on the effect on the Scottish hotel industry of orders issued under the Catering Wages Act, 1943.

Mr. Isaacs

I understand this matter is still under consideration by the Catering Wages Commission.

Colonel Gomme-Duncan

In view of the real urgency and seriousness of this matter, with the Easter trade and the Summer coming on, cannot the right hon. Gentleman do something to stir up this Commission? What is the good of it, if it takes all this time to deal with a perfectly obvious case?

Mr. Isaacs

I cannot agree with the observations of the hon. and gallant Gentleman, but we have asked the Commission to examine this matter, and it has had consultations with the responsible authorities in Scotland. There is to be a meeting on 5th April when, I hope, a decision will be made.
