HC Deb 08 March 1949 vol 462 cc984-5
58. Lady Tweedsmuir

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement as to his intentions for a proposed development council for the clothing industry.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Mr. John Edwards)

My right hon. Friend cannot make a statement until he has considered the comments on the proposals for a Clothing Development Council which he published in January.

Lady Tweedsmuir

Can the hon. Gentleman ensure that the development council order will not be made while large and important sections of the industry are still opposed to this proposal?

Mr. Edwards

I cannot say any more until my right hon. Friend has considered the comments.
