HC Deb 25 July 1949 vol 467 c1800
26. Mr. Carmichael

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement regarding the prospects of a general inquiry into the transport service of Glasgow and neighbouring districts with particular reference to the possibility of the electrification of some sections of the existing railway system.

Mr. Barnes

The British Transport Commission has informed me that it proposes to set up a committee of experts under the chairmanship of Sir Robert Inglis, to report to the Commission on the transport requirements of Glasgow and adjacent areas and to make recommendations. The committee will work in close co-operation with the Corporation of Glasgow. The membership of the committee and its terms of reference will shortly be announced by the Commission.
