HC Deb 24 January 1949 vol 460 cc543-4
14. Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that card clothing manufacturers are not receiving the full allocation of steel for which they have been granted licences; and whether, in view of the importance to the cotton export trade of having sufficient supplies of card clothing, he will take steps to ensure that a full allocation of steel is made available to these manufacturers at the earliest possible opportunity.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Arrangements have already been made which should ensure adequate supplies of steel in future.

Mr. Greenwood

In view of the fact that in the past deliveries have fallen short of allocations and that 45 per cent. of the cards in the cotton textile industry now need re-clothing, will my right hon. Friend ensure that in the future deliveries keep pace with the allocations?

Mr. Strauss

We believe that that will be so and that the arrears of delivery will be overtaken.
