HC Deb 24 January 1949 vol 460 cc565-6
69. Mr. Randall

asked the Minister of Agriculture what special financial assistance he proposes to offer to farmers on inferior and marginal land, or to other farmers in like circumstances so as to help them to increase their output.

Mr. T. Williams

The Government have decided to prolong until 1952 the Marginal Production Scheme, by which part of the cost of certain goods and services may be remitted to farmers whose circumstances are as described by my hon. Friend, so as to assist them to expand their output. The scheme now operating in England and Wales will be revised to bring it more clearly into line with the corresponding schemes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Further details will be available to the House when the new scheme is published as a Statutory Instrument and laid before Parliament.
