HC Deb 24 January 1949 vol 460 cc551-2
31. Mr. Willis

asked the Minister of Works what progress is being made in the provision of additional temporary accommodation for Government staffs in Edinburgh.

Mr. Key

A suitable site for a temporary office building in Edinburgh has been selected, and negotiations for its acquisition will now be opened.

Mr. Willis

Could my right hon. Friend say when these offices are likely to be completed, and whether, on completion, they will allow premises at present occupied in Edinburgh to be cleared, particularly dwelling-houses?

Mr. Key

The temporary accommodation should be completed by 1951, and in addition, there is a permanent building which should be completed in 1952. These will provide accommodation which will release the premises to which my hon. Friend refers.
