HC Deb 24 February 1949 vol 461 c1998
2. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if his attention has been drawn to the police experiment in the prevention and detection of crime which has been carried out in the City of Aberdeen with great success; and if he will consider steps to have this system copied or adapted in other places for the same useful purposes.

Mr. Ede

Experiments on these lines have been conducted in a number of police forces in England and Wales, and a working party consisting of His Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland, one of His Majesty's Inspectors of Constabulary for England and Wales, and a number of chief constables from both countries recently reported on the system to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and myself. A copy of the report has been transmitted to the Committee on Police Pay and Conditions of Service, and it is proposed to await the report of that committee before further action is considered.

Mr. Hughes

I thank my right hon. Friend for that very satisfactory reply.
