9. Vice-Admiral Taylorasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he will make a statement as to the award of pensions to the widows of Naval officers.
§ Mr. W. EdwardsI regret that I am not in a position to make a statement.
Vice-Admiral TaylorIs the hon. Gentleman aware that this Question was asked six months ago; and can he give any indication of when he will be able to make a statement? It has taken some considerable time for the Admiralty to make up their minds about it.
§ Mr. EdwardsI am aware that the question was asked some time ago, but this is really not a matter which concerns the Admiralty alone: it is an inter-Service matter. While I regret the delay, all I can say is that it will have to be gone into for Service agreement with other bodies before we can make any statement.
§ Mr. MedlandCould the Civil Lord inform the House whether there is any obstruction by the Treasury?
§ Mr. EdwardsNo, I could not say that the Treasury are at the moment obstructing in any way at all.
