14. Mr. Vaneasked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the practice of certain local authorities of arranging that Christmas and New Year holidays should be more generous in the case of employees who were members of their trade unions; and whether he will consider introducing legislation to prevent such discrimination.
§ Mr. IsaacsI am not aware of such practices by local authorities and the second part of the Question does not therefore arise.
Mr. VaneHas not the attention of the right hon. Gentleman been drawn to a much publicised decision of a rural district council in County Durham recently—a Labour-dominated council—and does he not think he should look into it further and take steps to prevent this discrimination being repeated?
§ Mr. IsaacsI repeat what I said, that I am not aware of such practices. If the hon. Member will be good enough to let me have particulars of them, I will gladly look into the matter.
