HC Deb 22 September 1948 vol 456 c888
64. Sir Ian Fraser

asked the Minister of Food whether he is now prepared to abolish tea and jam rationing.

Dr. Summerskill

Our stocks and anticipated future supplies of tea are not sufficient even to warrant an increase in the tea ration at present and abolition of rationing altogether is unlikely to be possible for some time. We have recently freed a large number of varieties of jam and we must see how the new arrangement works before deciding whether we can go further.

Sir I. Fraser

In view of the fact that all these commodities come from non-dollar sources, might not we have expected that after three years we would have got rid of rationing?

Dr. Summerskill

I must remind the hon. Member that sugar comes from dollar sources.
