HC Deb 15 November 1948 vol 458 cc18-9
28. Sir T. Moore

asked the Minister of Works whether he will consider the erection of a prominent sign outside the gates of New Palace Yard to indicate that a taxicab is required at the Members' entrance, instead of the present ineffective bell.

Mr. Key

I am discussing with the authorities of the House the possibility of making other arrangements.

Sir T. Moore

While I thank the right hon. Gentleman for his reply, may I ask him to bear in mind that at present only those taxicabs coming from the district of Waterloo can hear the bell and that no taxicab coming from Millbank, Victoria or Whitehall can hear it? As a consequence, Members of Parliament are frequently kept waiting a quarter of an hour or twenty minutes for a cab.
