HC Deb 15 November 1948 vol 458 c18
27. Mr. Goronwy Roberts

asked the Minister of Works what has resulted from the meeting in Caernarvon in July, 1948, between representatives of the North Wales slate quarrying industry and officials of his Department.

Mr. Key

The meeting was held to discuss a detailed technical report made at my invitation. This report made recommendations regarding the machinery required by the industry and suggested measures to improve its organisation through the formation of larger units. The former recommendations were welcomed by representatives of the industry, and help is being given and will continue to be given to obtain delivery of equipment. Some of the firms are now considering the formation of a merger company, and I have made it clear that if I receive businesslike proposals, I am prepared to facilitate the raising of new capital.
