HC Deb 11 November 1948 vol 457 cc1730-1
76. Mr. Cooper-Key

asked the Minister of National Insurance whether he is aware that there are many thousands of women partially engaged in remunerative work, who are also doing social work, such as looking after the aged and infirm; and whether in these cases he will consider reducing their contribution under the National Insurance Scheme.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of National Insurance (Mr. Steele)

As regards the first part of the Question, I have no information as to the number of women so situated. As regards the second part, my right hon. Friend has no power to reduce the rates of contributions set out in the First Schedule to the National Insurance Act, 1946.
