§ 41. Air-Commodore Harveyasked the Minister of Labour what arrangements exist at the appointments offices for university undergraduates to secure employment during their vacation.
§ Mr. IsaacsThere are organised schemes for temporary work in agriculture, and my Department provides free railway warrants to students travelling to and from this work. Students who apply to employment exchanges, or other offices of my Department, for temporary work outside agriculture, are submitted to such vacancies for temporary staff as may be notified, but the demand for their services is small. The National Union of Students has been approved as an employment agency for this special purpose.
§ Air-Commodore HarveyIn view of the straitened circumstances of many undergraduates, will the right hon. Gentleman impress on appointments officers that they should pay particular attention to giving help where they can in this matter?
§ Mr. IsaacsIt is quite unnecessary to do that, because they are giving every possible help. We realise the circumstances of the students, and are anxious to help them.
