HC Deb 11 May 1948 vol 450 c1940
14. Brigadier Thorp

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the total cost of repairing the range on Ross Links for use on 15th May.

Mr. Shinwell

Some £270 has been spent during the past six months on normal maintenance of this range.

15. Brigadier Thorp

asked the Secretary of State for War how many days the range on Ross Links is to be used between now and 16th June; and what is the strength of each Territorial régiment using the range.

Mr. Shinwell

The range is to be used on 12 days between now and 16th June. During this period two Territorial units, each with a strength of 75 will be using the range, besides a Regular unit of 60.

16. Brigadier Thorp

asked the Secretary of State for War what safety precautions are being taken to safeguard the inhabitants of Holy Island when the range on Ross Links is being used; and for how long daily inshore fishermen will be prevented from fishing in the proximity.

Mr. Shinwell

Holy Island is outside the danger area of the range. The inhabitants will not be affected by firing. Inshore fishermen will be excluded from the danger area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days when firing is in progress.

Brigadier Thorp

Can the Minister assure me that Holy Island and the harbour are outside the area?

Mr. Shinwell

That is precisely what I said.
