HC Deb 11 May 1948 vol 450 cc1961-2
59. Mr. J. L. Williams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an estimate of the amount of postwar credits already paid and of the amount still to be paid to those of pension age.

Sir S. Cripps

Up to 31st March, 1948, £114 million was repaid and it is estimated that during the current year another £20 million will be repaid mainly to persons who reach the qualifying age of 65, men, or 60, women, during the year.

Mr. Williams

Will my right hon. Friend now consider reducing the age limit for this payment, or extending payment to cases of hardship below the present age limit?

Sir S. Cripps

No, Sir, not in existing circumstances.
