47 and 48. Mr. H. D. Hughes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many properties have been offered to and accepted by the administrators of the National Land Fund; what progress has been made in transferring them to the National Trust, Youth Hostels Association, or other bodies; and what have been the costs incurred by the fund to date;

(2) what expenditure has been incurred by the National Land Fund to date in acquiring tracts of country for public use, and in assisting the National Trust and other appropriate organisations.

Sir S. Cripps

Five properties have so far been acquired by the State through the machinery of the National Land Fund. Of these, three have been transferred to the National Trust and one to the Youth Hostels Association. Details are shown in the statutory Statement laid before Parliament on 27th April last. The fifth has been transferred to the Minister of Agriculture for management by the Agricultural Land Commission. The total expenditure on these five cases is about £260,000. A number of other cases are under consideration.
