HC Deb 11 May 1948 vol 450 c1952
38. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Minister of National Insurance what arrangements have been made with the Government of Eire for reciprocity in matters relating to the payment of unemployment or sickness benefits or payments in respect of the confinement of women, widowhood, orphanhood, retirement, old age or death, where the insured person is obliged for health or other reasons to leave this country and reside permanently in Eire, or to leave Eire and reside permanently in this country.

Mr. Steele

Discussions on this subject are now proceeding with the Eire Government.

Sir I. Fraser

Will the hon. Gentleman try to bring this to a conclusion? Is he aware that if he does not he will leave the position so that people who served in the Armed Forces, and may have lived in the country perhaps for 40 years and have paid insurance, will get nothing for their payments at the end?

Mr. Steele

That is a different matter from the question of reciprocity.
