§ 28. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that a citizen of Newport, reference T.T.T. /3802/2, was demobilised on 9th October, 1947, and has not yet had a satisfactory suit of clothes provided for him; that two suits have been returned as, although they were of different colour and pattern to that selected, they did not fit; that the man is prepared to accept any suitable material, and if no standard suit is available will he give instructions for 1078 him to be fitted with a made-to-measure suit at once.
§ Mr. ShinwellNo complaint has yet been received about the second suit, nor can its return be traced. Arrangements will be made to obtain a fresh set of measurements, and, if it is not possible to provide a suit from the range of sizes normally held, one will be made to measure.
§ Mr. FreemanDoes not my right hon Friend agree that seven months is rather a long time and that the man ought to have been fitted with a made-to-measure suit?
§ Mr. ShinwellIt certainly seems to be a long time. I think there has been some misunderstanding. Even among civilians, it takes about seven months to get a suit.
