50. Mr. H. D. Hughesasked the Minister of Labour how many requests have been received from iron foundries in the West Midlands for the services of the Personnel Management Branch of his Department, since the industry's attention was drawn to this service in the report of the Joint Advisory Committee.
§ The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)None, Sir.
Mr. HughesIs the Minister considering steps which will encourage the factory owners in this area to take fuller advantage of the services which his Department can now offer?
§ Mr. IsaacsThat is quite another question.
51. Mr. H. D. Hughesasked the Minister of Labour if he is proposing to amend the Factories (Cleanliness of Walls and Ceilings) Order, 1938, as recommended by the Joint Advisory Committee on conditions in iron foundries; if His Majesty's factory inspectors have been instructed to secure the implementation of other appropriate recommendations of that report; and what regulations have been issued to this effect.
§ Mr. IsaacsI contemplate some amendment of the Order on the lines suggested. As regards implementation of the Committee's recommendations generally, I would refer my hon. Friend to my reply of the 4th February to the hon. Member for Stoke (Mr. Ellis Smith).
