HC Deb 18 March 1948 vol 448 c2279
49. Mr. Anthony Greenwood

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will take steps to ensure that mule spinners put out of work as a result of their mills being re-equipped with ring spindles will be offered alternative employment in which they will not lose financially and will be able to contribute towards achieving the target laid down for the cotton textile industry.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Ness Edwards)

Yes, Sir. While the matter is not free from difficulty, every effort will be made to offer such workers suitable alternative employment in the cotton industry.
