HC Deb 08 March 1948 vol 448 cc780-1
31. Mr. Donner

asked the Minister of Works what progress has now been made to secure alternative accommodation for those now housed at the Tower Transport Café, Basingstoke; and at what date it will be derequisitioned.

Mr. Key

Alternative accommodation has been made available, but adaptations are necessary, and it is unlikely that the café premises can be derequisitioned for some months.

Mr. Donner

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the present lack of this rest house constitutes a great hardship for long distance lorry drivers, and that more than 400 have protested against its continued requisitioning?

Mr. Key

Yes, Sir, and I am doing all I can to get the adaptations carried through in order to be able to derequisition the premises.
