HC Deb 08 March 1948 vol 448 c780
30. Mr. Marples

asked the Minister of Works whether, in view of the fact that 2,041 building trade operatives were unemployed in Liverpool and Bootle on 12th January, 1948, he will consider granting more licences for building in order to absorb these unemployed.

Mr. Key

Licences are being granted to the full extent that the supply of scarce materials, such as steel and timber, permits.

Mr. Marples

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that building trade apprentices, as well as craftsmen, are apprehensive about their future? Will he consider giving to Merseyside some definite figures showing the future size of the building industry on Merseyside?

Mr. Key

If that question is put down I will give consideration to it.
