§ 71. Mr. David Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress is being made in absorbing into local government service those members of the National Fire Service who were promised such absorption; what is the number of N.F.S. personnel to have been obliged to accept posts of inferior status in the new Fire Services; and when he proposes to make regulations providing for compensation for those who are not so absorbed, or who have to accept posts with lesser salaries than they now enjoy.
§ Mr. EdeI am not yet in a position to give detailed figures, but it is known that a considerable proportion of the staffs concerned have not yet been absorbed. The matter is receiving my urgent consideration, and a conference with the representatives of the local authority associations had already been arranged for tomorrow. I fully realise the anxieties of the men and women affected, and I will see that they are informed of the position as soon as possible and will communicate with my hon. Friend.
§ Mr. JonesWill the administrative staff who have been given provisional notification that their services will not be required after 31st March be the subject of consideration?
§ Mr. BramallIs my right hon. Friend aware that a number of these people have already received their notices, and that therefore the matter is very urgent?
