HC Deb 02 March 1948 vol 448 c199
40. Lord John Hope

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that on 15th November, 1947, the father of No. 9120006 Pte. E. Wight, R.A.O.C., received notice from the Paymaster, Leeds, that his son's pay and remittances had been stopped as from 17th October; that on 17th January an apology was sent regretting that the stoppage notice had been a mistake; that on 28th January the Wight home was visited by police with orders to arrest Pte. Wight as a deserter; that this also was a mistake; and what disciplinary action has been taken against those responsible for such inefficiency and distress.

Mr. M. Stewart

I have called for an urgent report on this case from the overseas command concerned. When it has been received I will write to the noble Lord.
