HC Deb 02 March 1948 vol 448 cc198-9
32. Mr. Baker White

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that former members of the Women's Services with good records are being informed that they are not eligible for consideration under the present A.T.S. Direct Entry Commission scheme, and if he will state the reason for this ban.

Mr. M. Stewart

The A.T.S. Deliberate Entry Scheme was introduced to tap a new source of supply and to attract into the A.T.S. civilian applicants with suitable educational qualifications who would not otherwise apply. It is not intended that the new scheme should prejudice the normal selection of officers through the ranks. Ex-Service personnel can rejoin under the Extended Service Schemes. Consideration is, however, being given to the possibility of extending the scheme to include certain applicants with previous service.
