§ 13. Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Food whether in the next issue of new ration books he will arrange that pages should be perforated in order to save shopkeepers the necessity for using scissors and possibly mutilating the books.
§ Dr. SummerskillWe did consider doing this, but decided we ought not to perforate the pages because of the very real danger that, in the course of a year's wear and tear, coupons might become detached and lost.
§ Mr. JannerWill my hon. Friend appreciate the fact that stamps do not become loose in that way, and will she, perhaps, reconsider the question.
§ Dr. SummerskillYes, but I must remind my hon. Friend that a stamp book only lasts a few weeks, and ration books have to last a year. Furthermore, if my hon. Friend examines his ration book and invites his wife's advice he will realise that only a few coupons have to be torn out. The coupons for the main foods are only cancelled.
