HC Deb 01 March 1948 vol 448 c28
54. Mr. Collins

asked the Minister of Agriculture what special steps he will take, in addition to those already proposed, to ensure a substantial increase in food production in the next six months.

Mr. T. Williams

I am not aware of any additional special measures that I could take to increase food production during the next six months, but I earnestly hope that farmers will do their utmost to obtain the highest possible yields of crops, and the maximum output of milk and other livestock products.

Mr. Collins

Can my right hon. Friend consider any special steps to be taken by the county committees in areas where they are of opinion that there is not a sufficient tillage acreage or where there is unwillingness on the part of farmers to plough up grassland; and, further, can he say anything about an increased priority for grass dryers or other farm machinery?

Mr. Williams

If my hon. Friend will put down a particular Question about grass dryers or other farm machinery, I shall be happy to give him the information he requires.
