HC Deb 01 March 1948 vol 448 c6
11. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that all the better types of dessert apples have disappeared from the shops since the control was re-imposed; and if he will take action to see that this fruit is available to the public.

Dr. Summerskill

Practically the whole of the 1947 crop of better type dessert apples had been marketed by 1st February when apple prices were again controlled.

Mr. Baldwin

Is the Minister aware that this is an argument in favour of doing away with controls where possible? Is the aware that when controls were re-imposed it was at the time when the apples that had been stored at the request of the Minister were just coming on to the market?
