39. Mr. Asterley Jones

asked the Minister of Works why the doors of the huts at Royston P.O.W. Camp, Hertfordshire, have been removed; and whether he will make a statement on the future of this camp.

Doors and windows were removed temporarily to discourage squatters. As stated by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health on 8th July, the habitable part of the camp has now been offered to the Royston Urban District Council for housing purposes.

Can my right hon. Friend say how long it was before the camp was vacated by the prisoners of war? Was the local authority informed that it would be vacated?
