HC Deb 06 July 1948 vol 453 cc190-1
21. Mr. Low

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the present strength, men and women, officers and other ranks of the Territorial Army; and what numbers, in each of these categories, have been recruited month by month since the end of February last.

Mr. Shinwell

The strength of the Territorial Army at 31st May as reported by units was approximately 7,300 male officers and 34,100 male other ranks and 200 female officers and 5,300 female other ranks. I will, with permission, circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT the figures asked for in the last part of the Question.

Sir R. Ross

Will it be possible for the right hon. Gentleman to divide the figures into commands and districts?

Mr. Shinwell

That is asking us to take on quite a lot.

Mr. Low

Is it not much easier for the right hon. Gentleman to publish the figures that arrive at the War Office from the Commands than to amalgamate them?

Mr. Shinwell

I do not know whether it is or not, but I will look into the question, and if it is easier, I will do so.

Following are the figures:

MALE RECRUITS.
1948. Officers. Other Ranks. Total.
February 228 1,743 1,971
March 223 1,940 2,163
