HC Deb 06 July 1948 vol 453 c203
60. Sir J. Mellor

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury why slips published by the Stationery Office to correct errors in Statutory Instruments are undated; and if he will cause the date of publication of such slips to be printed upon them.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Because they only correct small clerical mistakes between the signed order and the published order, and the date of issue is not necessary.

Sir J. Mellor

If these matters are worthy of a correction, surely the correcting document should bear a date of issue, which may be a material matter?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

We have no strong objections to putting a date in, but it is felt that it would lead to ambiguity and people might imagine the date of the slip was the date of the order.

Mr. Oliver Stanley

Did the right hon. Gentleman have the authority of his right hon. and learned Friend to give any other answer than "No, Sir"?
